Competition rules
Effective date: 4 October 2026
These Competition Rules apply to competitions offered through NAKO and should be read together with the NAKO Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
By participating in a NAKO competition, participants agree to these Competition Rules and any additional rules displayed on the relevant competition page.
1. Eligibility
Unless otherwise stated on a particular competition:
Participants must be 18 years or older and ordinarily resident in South Africa.
Participants must provide accurate personal and contact information.
Employees, directors, contractors, agents, influencers, creators and other persons directly involved in operating or promoting NAKO competitions are not permitted to enter competitions during their involvement with NAKO.
NAKO may request proof of identity, age or eligibility before awarding a prize.
2. How to Participate
Available competitions will be displayed on nakoapp.org.
Each competition page will identify the prize and applicable participation requirements.
Where permitted under the applicable legal structure, participants may select the competition they wish to participate in and complete the required checkout process.
Current participation amounts may include R10 or R20, depending on the competition.
This section is subject to final legal review concerning NAKO's paid-entry model.
3. Valid Entries
An entry will only become valid once:
• the participant has supplied the required information;
• the applicable transaction has been successfully confirmed by NAKO's payment provider; and
• the entry has been recorded successfully by NAKO's system.
Pending, declined, reversed, cancelled or fraudulent transactions will not constitute valid entries.
Each confirmed entry will be associated with the relevant competition and transaction record.
4. Multiple Entries
Where permitted for a particular competition, participants may obtain more than one entry.
Each valid entry will constitute a separate opportunity in the applicable competition.
Any entry limits will be displayed on the relevant competition page where applicable.
5. Competition Progress
NAKO may display the progress of individual competitions using a percentage indicator.
The percentage displayed is intended to communicate the progress of the competition and does not necessarily display the precise number of entries received.
NAKO will not knowingly manipulate competition progress information to mislead participants.
6. Closing a Competition
Each competition will close according to the closing conditions communicated for that competition.
Once a competition has closed, no further entries will be accepted.
NAKO may postpone, suspend, cancel or amend a competition where reasonably necessary because of technical problems, fraud, legal or regulatory requirements, circumstances beyond NAKO's reasonable control, or another legitimate reason.
Where this materially affects participants, NAKO will provide the remedy required under applicable law.
7. Winner Selection
Every valid entry included in a competition will participate in the applicable winner-selection process.
Winners will be selected using the fair selection method specified for the relevant competition.
NAKO will maintain appropriate records relating to the competition and winner-selection process where required.
No creator, employee or other person excluded under these Rules may influence the outcome of a competition.
8. Winner Verification
Selection as a potential winner does not automatically constitute final confirmation of a prize.
Before confirming a winner, NAKO may verify:
• the participant's identity;
• age and residency;
• contact information;
• validity of the relevant entry;
• successful payment status where applicable; and
• compliance with these Rules.
NAKO may disqualify an entrant where there is reasonable evidence of fraud, manipulation, ineligibility or a material breach of these Rules, subject to applicable law.
9. Winner Notification
NAKO will contact the selected winner using the contact information provided when participating.
Participants are responsible for providing accurate contact details.
NAKO may also announce verified winners through its website or official social media channels, subject to applicable privacy and consent requirements.
NAKO will never require a winner to pay a fee to release their prize.
10. Claiming a Prize
A winner may be required to provide reasonable proof of identity and other information necessary to verify eligibility and arrange delivery or collection.
The claim period, where applicable, will be communicated to the winner or stated in the relevant competition rules.
If a selected winner cannot be contacted, fails verification, refuses the prize or does not claim it within the applicable period, NAKO will deal with the prize in accordance with applicable law and the specific competition rules.
11. Prizes
The prize awarded will correspond with the description provided on the applicable competition page.
Prize images may be illustrative where stated.
Unless NAKO expressly provides otherwise, prizes cannot be exchanged for cash or substituted at the winner's request.
If circumstances outside NAKO's reasonable control make the advertised prize unavailable, any substitution will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
12. Prize Delivery
NAKO will communicate directly with verified winners regarding delivery or collection.
Delivery requirements may differ depending on the nature of the prize.
Winners may be required to provide a valid South African delivery address and other information reasonably necessary to fulfil the prize.
13. Travel Prizes
Where a competition includes travel, additional conditions may apply.
The competition page or prize documentation will specify what is included, such as flights and accommodation.
Unless expressly included, personal spending money, meals, transport, activities, insurance and other incidental expenses remain the winner's responsibility.
Travel dates may be subject to availability and applicable booking conditions.
The winner and any travelling companion are responsible for possessing the identification and documentation required for travel.
14. Voucher Prizes
Voucher prizes are subject to the issuing retailer's applicable terms, validity periods and redemption conditions.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, vouchers cannot be exchanged by NAKO for cash.
15. Technology and Payment Errors
If a technical issue causes an entry to be incorrectly recorded, duplicated or omitted, NAKO may investigate and correct the affected records.
A screenshot of a checkout or confirmation page alone does not override NAKO's verified transaction and entry records.
16. Prohibited Conduct
Participants must not attempt to:
• manipulate a competition;
• interfere with NAKO's website or systems;
• use fraudulent or unauthorised payment methods;
• create entries through automated or abusive methods;
• impersonate another person;
• interfere with winner selection; or
• exploit technical errors.
Suspected fraud or manipulation may be investigated and may result in disqualification where permitted by law.
17. Publicity and Winner Content
NAKO may invite winners to participate voluntarily in photographs, videos, testimonials or winner announcements.
Where consent is legally required, NAKO will obtain the appropriate consent before using a winner's image, likeness or testimonial for promotional purposes.
Participation in promotional content will not be presented as a condition for receiving a prize unless lawfully disclosed and permitted.
18. Personal Information
Personal information collected in connection with competitions will be processed in accordance with the NAKO Privacy Policy and applicable South African privacy law.
19. Complaints and Queries
Questions or complaints concerning a competition may be submitted to:
NAKO
support@nakoapp.org
nakoapp.org
NAKO will reasonably investigate competition-related complaints and respond in accordance with applicable consumer law.
20. Applicable Law
These Competition Rules are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Nothing in these Rules limits rights afforded to participants under applicable South African consumer or privacy legislation.
